What are the advantages of Z-LASIK™ compared to other technologies?
Faster Visual Recovery -
With Z-LASIK, visual recovery is markedly faster. Most patients will begin to see clearly 1-2 hours after the procedure is completed, and on the next day will be seeing close to optimum vision.
Total procedure time shorter -
With Z-LASIK, total procedure time is reduced from 20 minutes on average to a mere 10 minutes. This is because the 2 steps of the procedure (femto laser flap creation and excimer laser) have been integrated. There is no waiting time and no moving from one laser to another.
With Z-LASIK, the surgeon controls the optics of the laser increasing accuracy and reducing contact time with the eye.
Ziemer technology uses an incredibly fast sequence of tiny light pulses to generate the smooth surface in the corneal tissue that is required for optimal vision correction. Within the few seconds required to create the corneal flap, the Ziemer femotsecond laser will place an almost unimaginable number of 400 million tiny, closely spaced gas bubbles inside the cornea.
Thinner Flaps -
Due to the high precision of the Z-LASIK procedure, thinner more predictable flaps can be created. Higher degrees of Myopia, Astigmatism, and Hyperopia can be treated with confidence.
Larger Treatment Zones -
With Z-LASIK larger treatment areas are created which allow for improved quality of vision, especially at night or in conditions of poor lighting. Few patients have experienced halo effects (circular reflections around light sources at night time) with refractive procedures, but with Z-LASIK, this undesirable phenomenon will be an even rarer.
Reduced Occurrence of Dry Eye syndrome -
Dry Eye Syndrome is a minor side effect of LASIK (it is observed in 4% of all treated eyes). With the gentler Z-LASIK procedure, the incidence of Dry Eye Syndrome is further reduced.
Reduced inflammation -
Z-LASIK technology uses light pulses with much lower pulse energy. Higher pulse energies used in other technologies can cause inflammation which may affect your vision and may cause pain for a few days. Such inflammatory response can be treated with medication and will not cause a permanent harmful effect. However, in Z-LASIK no such adverse reactions have been reported.

- No inflammation: The laser energy used for Z-LASIK is 100 times less powerful than with other laser procedures. This is gentler to the corneal tissue and prevents temporary inflammatory reactions of the eye.
- Fast result: The recovery period is shorter than for other techniques. Visual improvement is noticeable within a few hours.
- Fewer side effects: Z-LASIK enables the surgeon to enlarge the treatment zone. This reduces the risk of undesirable side effects such as dry eyes, deteriorated night vision or haloes (rings of light that surround point sources of light).
